– You can sell on eBay Germany from the UK in two ways: let your eBay.co.uk listings show abroad in English, or list directly on eBay.de (and .fr, .it, .es, .nl) in the local language.
– Listings on a local eBay site must be in that site’s language (eBay item description policy).
– For EU orders up to €150, eBay collects the import VAT and gives you its IOSS number to pass to your carrier electronically (eBay export portal).
– Since 13 December 2024, listings for EU and Northern Ireland buyers need GPSR details: manufacturer, an EU Responsible Person and safety information (eBay UK Seller Centre).
– Germany adds its own rules: an Impressum (legal notice), the 14-day right of withdrawal, and packaging registration (LUCID).
– Since 1 July 2026, the EU also charges a temporary €3 customs duty per item type on parcels worth up to €150 (European Commission).
To sell on eBay Germany from the UK, either add international postage so your eBay.co.uk listings show to German buyers, or list directly on eBay.de in German with prices in euros. Either way, you need IOSS-ready shipping, GPSR safety details, German legal information and a returns policy that meets EU consumer law.
Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands each have their own eBay site, and all five follow the same EU rules on VAT, product safety and consumer rights. What stops most UK sellers is the paperwork: VAT after Brexit, product safety, German legal notices and customs.
This guide puts all of it in one place, in the order you’ll need it. We’ll use a UK seller of motorcycle gloves and jackets as the example.
This guide is general information, not legal or tax advice. Rules change, and your situation may differ. Check with an accountant or adviser before you start selling into the EU.
What are the ways to sell on eBay Europe from the UK?
There are three main routes. Add international postage so your eBay.co.uk listings appear abroad in English. List directly on each local eBay site, in its language and currency. Or, if you’re eligible, use eBay’s free European Sales Booster, which translates and places your listings for you.
| International visibility | Local listings (eBay.de etc.) | European Sales Booster | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it works | Your eBay.co.uk listing appears in other countries’ search | You create a separate listing on each local site | Webinterpret translates and places eligible listings |
| Language | English; titles may be translated | Local language | Translated for you |
| Currency | One price, converted by eBay | You set a local price | Handled by the programme |
| Fees | eBay.co.uk fees | That country’s selling fees | Final value fee on the site where it sells, plus UK listing fees |
| Search visibility | Buyers filtering for local items may not see you | Appears in local search results | Placed on the local sites |
| Who it suits | Testing demand | Committed sellers | Featured or Anchor shop subscribers |

International visibility is the easy start. eBay says your eBay.co.uk listings could appear on international sites in English, but buyers who filter for local listings may not see them.
Local listings take more work but reach more buyers. eBay’s Seller Centre says listings on local sites appear in those sites’ search results, and you pay only that country’s selling fees.
The European Sales Booster, powered by Webinterpret, is free. It translates eligible listings and places them on eBay.de, .fr, .it, .es, .com and .com.au. Changes on eBay.co.uk reach the translated listings within 24 hours. To qualify you need a UK registration address, a Featured or Anchor shop (or an eBay invitation), an Above Standard or Top Rated seller rating, and fixed-price listings with international postage costs (eBay UK Help). Webinterpret also sells its own service directly (Webinterpret).
How do you list directly on eBay.de, .fr, .it, .es and .nl?
Sign in to the local eBay site with your eBay.co.uk account, then create a listing there in the local language, with a price in euros and postage to that country. You must meet that site’s selling rules, and eBay may ask you to sign an International Selling Agreement first.
- Check eligibility. eBay may ask you to sign an International Selling Agreement before you sell internationally (eBay UK Help).
- Sign in to the local site (for example eBay.de) with your eBay.co.uk details.
- Set up your business details for that market. In Germany this includes your legal notice (Impressum), terms and withdrawal information (see below).
- Use your eBay business policies for postage, returns and payment, set up for that site.
- Create the listing in the local language, with a localised title, item specifics and description.
- Set a euro price that covers postage, duties and currency movements.
- Add GPSR details for the product: manufacturer, EU Responsible Person and safety information.
- List, then monitor messages and returns in the local language.
Each site has its own categories and item specifics. A “Motorradjacke” on eBay.de may sit in a different category, with different required specifics, from a “motorcycle jacket” on eBay.co.uk. If you sell sizes and colours, the same variation rules apply on every site: see our guide to eBay variation listings.
Listing the same range on four eBay sites? Stock Konnect copies listings between your eBay sites, and can translate them and convert prices to the target currency as part of the copy. Try it free for 30 days.
Do you need to translate your listings?
Yes, for local listings. eBay’s item description policy says descriptions, including pictures and video, must be in the primary language of the eBay site where the item is listed. On international visibility alone, eBay may translate your title, but your description stays in English.
eBay’s item description policy sets the language rule. For international visibility, eBay’s Seller Centre says titles are translated where available, but listings may still appear in English.
Machine translation is a fine first draft. Then have a native speaker check the parts that matter most:
- Sizes. EU buyers often expect EU sizes (for example 50, 52, 54 for jackets). Include a size chart image with both UK and EU sizes.
- Safety terms. “CE Level 2” protection, “EN 13594” for gloves and similar standards must be stated correctly.
- Item specifics. Use the local site’s own values. On eBay.de, colours are “Schwarz”, “Grau”, “Rot”.
- Returns and legal text. These must match local consumer law, not just read well.
How does VAT work when selling to the EU from the UK?
Goods sent from Great Britain to EU consumers are normally zero-rated for UK VAT as exports. On the EU side, import VAT is due. For orders up to €150, eBay collects it at checkout and gives you an IOSS number to send to your carrier. Above €150, the buyer usually pays import VAT on delivery.
| Question | Short answer | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Do I charge UK VAT on GB → EU sales? | Normally no. Exports are zero-rated if you meet the conditions, including evidence of export within 3 months | GOV.UK VAT Notice 703 |
| Who collects EU VAT on eBay orders up to €150? | eBay collects and remits it | eBay export portal |
| What do I do with eBay’s IOSS number? | Pass it to the carrier electronically; writing it on the label isn’t enough | eBay export portal |
| What about orders over €150? | eBay doesn’t collect VAT; the buyer pays on delivery (France is an exception, where eBay collects on all orders) | eBay export portal |
| What is IOSS? | The EU’s Import One Stop Shop for VAT on imported goods in consignments up to €150 | European Commission, VAT One Stop Shop |
| What is OSS? | The One Stop Shop for declaring VAT on sales within the EU, from one EU registration | European Commission |
| Is there any duty? | Since 1 July 2026, a temporary €3 customs duty per item type on parcels worth up to €150 | European Commission |
| I’m in Northern Ireland. Is it different? | Yes. NI sellers follow EU goods rules, with a £8,818 distance-selling threshold | GOV.UK |
Three points trip UK sellers up:
- The IOSS number must travel electronically. eBay puts its IOSS number in the order details. Send it in your carrier’s electronic customs data. If it’s missing, the buyer may be asked to pay VAT again on delivery.
- The €3 duty counts item types, not units. The Commission’s example: five identical T-shirts attract one €3 duty, but T-shirts and a watch attract two. The seller or importer declares and pays it. Ask your carrier how they collect it.
- OSS matters once your stock is in the EU. If you move stock to a warehouse in Germany and ship to buyers across the EU, you’re making sales within the EU, and that’s where OSS and EU VAT registration come in.
What does GPSR mean for UK eBay sellers?
The EU General Product Safety Regulation applies to sales to buyers in the EU and Northern Ireland from 13 December 2024. Business sellers must show the manufacturer’s details, an EU-based Responsible Person if the manufacturer is outside the EU, product identifiers and safety information. Non-compliant listings may be hidden from EU buyers.
According to eBay UK’s GPSR page, each listing for EU or NI buyers needs:
- Manufacturer name and contact details.
- EU Responsible Person name and contact details, if the manufacturer is outside the EU or NI.
- Product information such as model number, type and pictures.
- Safety information (warnings, manuals or labels), in the local language.
- CE marking, where the product’s regulations require it. Motorcycle gloves and jackets are personal protective equipment, so this applies.
eBay says listings without the required information may not be visible or purchasable to EU and NI buyers, and visibility returns once you add it. The legal text is Regulation (EU) 2023/988. Post 5 in this series covers GPSR in depth.
What extra rules apply on eBay Germany?
Business sellers on eBay.de need a German-style legal notice (Impressum) with name, address, email and VAT number; must offer EU consumers a 14-day right of withdrawal (Widerrufsrecht); and must register their packaging in Germany’s LUCID packaging register before selling to German consumers.
| Requirement | What it means | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Impressum (legal notice) | Your name, address, email, trade register details and VAT ID must be easy to find. On eBay.de this goes in your legal seller information | § 5 DDG |
| Widerrufsrecht (right of withdrawal) | Consumers can cancel an online purchase within 14 days of delivery without giving a reason | Your Europe (European Union) |
| LUCID (packaging register) | Online sellers who send packaged goods to German consumers count as producers and must register; registration is free | LUCID Packaging Register |
| System participation | For sales packaging you also sign a contract with a dual system (Systembeteiligung), which licenses your packaging | LUCID Packaging Register |
| German-language terms | Your returns, withdrawal and safety information should be in German | eBay item description policy |
German consumer law is enforced not only by authorities but also through warning letters (Abmahnungen) from competitors. A missing Impressum or a wrong withdrawal notice is the classic trigger. Use a German legal-text service or adviser for your Impressum, terms and withdrawal notice, rather than translating your UK terms.
France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands follow the same EU 14-day withdrawal rule. France and some other EU countries have their own packaging and recycling (EPR) schemes too, so check each country before you add it.
How do you ship and handle returns from the UK?
Ship with a carrier that sends electronic customs data and the IOSS number, include a customs declaration, and offer returns that meet the EU’s 14-day withdrawal rule. If you’d rather not handle customs yourself, eBay International Shipping or the Global Shipping Programme can take on customs and import charges.
Your options:
- Your own carrier. You complete the customs data (contents, value, commodity code, IOSS number for orders up to €150). Keep proof of export, because you’ll need it to zero-rate the sale for UK VAT (GOV.UK VAT Notice 703).
- eBay International Shipping. eBay handles international postage, customs, returns and refunds, and there’s no international selling fee when you use it (eBay UK Help).
- Global Shipping Programme. You post to a UK hub; eBay arranges the international leg and customs, and buyers pay import charges at checkout.
Returns. EU buyers can withdraw within 14 days of delivery. Decide whether you’ll pay return postage, and say so clearly in German (and in French, Italian or Spanish on those sites). A return from Germany to the UK passes through customs again, so give buyers a clear returns address and instructions.
Pricing. Build postage, the €3 duty and currency movements into your euro price. A glove that’s profitable at £39.99 in the UK may need a different price in euros once those costs are included.
Selling across eBay’s European sites with Stock Konnect
Stock Konnect manages several eBay accounts and sites (UK, DE, FR and more) from one catalogue. It copies listings between eBay sites and can translate them and convert prices to the target currency as part of the copy, with per-account changes to title, price and images where you need them.
Once you’re selling on three or four eBay sites, keeping them in step by hand gets hard. Here’s what Stock Konnect’s listing management does for European eBay selling:
- Multiple eBay sites per account. Connect your eBay accounts and work with the UK, German, French and other sites from one place.
- Copy listings to other eBay sites. Copy a listing from eBay.co.uk to eBay.de, with automatic translation and currency conversion. Translation and conversion are an option set per account, and very long descriptions aren’t auto-translated, so always have a native speaker check the result.
- Per-site overrides. Give each site its own title, price or images while keeping one product record.
- Listing profiles. Save presets for dispatch time, item location and your eBay business policies, so each site’s listings start with the right settings.
- Description templates. Use one HTML template per brand across every site (see our eBay listing template guide).
- Orders and dispatch in one place. eBay orders from every site are imported every 15 minutes. Print labels for 12 carriers and send tracking back to eBay.
- Stock updates. Stock goes to every eBay site instantly when you edit it, plus a daily automatic sweep.
The same catalogue can also feed Amazon, Shopify and WooCommerce. New to selling on more than one channel? Start with what multichannel ecommerce is.

Frequently asked questions
Can I sell on eBay.de with my UK eBay account?
Yes. You sign in to eBay.de with your eBay.co.uk details and list there. You must meet eBay.de’s selling rules, list in German, and eBay may ask you to sign an International Selling Agreement first.
Do I need to register for VAT in Germany to sell on eBay.de?
Not usually, if you ship from the UK to consumers. For orders up to €150, eBay collects the import VAT, and above €150 the buyer normally pays it on delivery. You may need EU VAT registration if you hold stock in the EU or deliver duties paid. Ask an accountant about your situation.
What is IOSS on eBay?
IOSS is the EU’s Import One Stop Shop. For orders up to €150 to EU buyers, eBay collects the import VAT and gives you its IOSS number. You pass it to your carrier in the electronic customs data, so the buyer isn’t charged VAT again on delivery.
Do I need an Impressum on eBay.de?
Business sellers selling to German consumers must provide their name, address, email and, where they have one, their VAT number and trade register details. On eBay.de this is shown in your legal seller information.
Does GPSR apply if I sell from the UK?
Yes, when you sell to buyers in the EU or Northern Ireland. Since 13 December 2024, those listings need manufacturer details, an EU Responsible Person if the manufacturer is outside the EU, and safety information. Sales to buyers in Great Britain aren’t covered.
Can eBay translate my listings for me?
Partly. With international visibility, eBay may translate your title. The free European Sales Booster, powered by Webinterpret, translates eligible listings for Featured and Anchor shop subscribers. Otherwise you translate them yourself or with a listing tool.
Do EU buyers have a right to return items bought on eBay?
Yes. Consumers in the EU can cancel an online purchase within 14 days of delivery without giving a reason. Business sellers must tell buyers about this right in the local language.
What is LUCID and do UK sellers need it?
LUCID is Germany’s packaging register. Online sellers who send packaged goods to German consumers count as producers under the Packaging Act and must register, even without a German address. Registration is free, but you also need a system participation contract that licenses your sales packaging.
